Extreme participation on the example of Integrity Pacts

We recommend the article of Grzegorz Makowski, an expert of the Stefan Batory Foundation, Extreme Participation: Citizens’ Involvement in Public Procurement Decisions. The Example of Piloting Integrity Pacts in the European Union, which first appeared in the collective publication Public Sphere in Poland and Its Contemporary Contexts (edited by Jolanta Arcimowicz and Kaja Gadowska).

The author presents a theoretical and historical outline of civil society, without which, as he emphasizes, contemporary thinking about civic participation, as well as the implemented solutions, would never have arisen. One of such solutions is the mechanism of the Integrity Pacts. From the publication, you will learn more about the goals of the pacts, about the beginnings of their introduction in the world, why were they originally called the „Island of Integrity”, and about the first attempts to introduce them in Poland. You will also learn about the experiences and reflections on the Polish pilot of the Integrity Pact in 2015 – 2021.
